Women On Top is a unique drama collaboration between Caste Away Arts and the women of Kairos WWT. Together we celebrate the voices of women in theatre. This project began in the lead up to International Women’s Week 2011 as a taster…but then grew and became a life line to many of the women that we worked with.
Reena Jaisiah, Creative Director first began this project initially as a 6 week course designed to explore the key elements of drama in order for these talented women to embark on their very own journey of writing production and performance. This project has explored experimentation with voice, movement, creating characters through improvisation techniques and devising theatre with mime. Fun packed and learner lead, Women on Top has proven to be empowering and valuable in acquiring skills and confidence. Midnight Bluebells Ring Out Loudly was the devised piece by all the women of the project . We went on to do a piece inspired by objects and had huge success with Women on Top monologues; a collection of work performed for Internationals Women’s week 2012!
In 2016 we got collaborate with Kairos’s keeping safe group and created an animation with young service users about the reality of their lives. Together with Harmeet-Chagger Khan we created ‘Catch 22’ which is available to see on the Kairos link below:
